Achieving Meaningful Impact with the YGL Community
The Forum of Young Global Leaders wants to transform a collection of successful leaders into a community of collective action. Subsequently, one of the most important elements of the community is to provide you with a platform to craft, nurture and incubate ideas with your fellow YGLs and ultimately launch initiatives aiming to solve unmet global challenges. It starts with an idea from a group of YGLs; we connect them to relevant experts and partners within the YGL and broader Forum community, and ultimately encourage them to form their own legal entities. Since 2005, nine YGL initiatives have grown from idea into mature, non-profit organizations and we hope to see many more flourish in the coming years.
We have recently updated the list of active YGL initiatives and have posted it online here. Is your YGL initiative listed? If not, send us a short paragraph and a link to your initiative’s website so we can feature your efforts. Likewise, if you would like to update the description of your initiative, please send the text to the YGL team.
The YGL team actively supports and acknowledges the amazing efforts that YGLs make with peer-to-peer YGL support, by holding ongoing YGL dialogues like the Power Dads group or the Sustainable Business Webinars, and with the regular local YGL gatherings that are organized around the world. There are many ways to become engaged and have an impact with The Forum of Young Global Leaders – set up a call with your YGL Community Manager to find your niche to leverage the YGL community for positive impact. Our team is here as a resource for you.
And finally my monthly reminder... Just like the YGL community is your community, this newsletter is what you make of it. It is the platform for you to share your ideas, updates and inspiring stories. Please send your news and feedback to YGLNewsletter@weforum.org.
See you soon!
David

Deworm the World
Building on the success of the pilot programme in Andhra Pradesh, the Government of Delhi launched a school-based deworming programme throughout the National Capital Territory on 21 February, targeting 3.6 million preschool and school-age children across public schools and urban slums in at-risk areas. The Delhi School-based Deworming Program is led by the Directorate of Health Services, Directorate of Education, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Ministry of Women & Child Development. Deworm the World advocated for school-based deworming in Delhi, and supported the government in undertaking a prevalence survey and determining a treatment strategy. DtW is providing technical and operational support throughout the programme as well as coordinating strategic support to leverage programme resources, including catalytic investments in prevalence surveying and drug shipments to launch this programme. This endeavour was covered by global media outlets including this article on the BBC. For more information about how you can get involved, visit www.dewormtheworld.org or send an e-mail to contact@dewormtheworld.org.
THIRST
World Water Day, 22nd March, was the kick off date for Thirst, the YGL global water awareness initiative. Helped by thousands of high-school and university students, Thirst made huge human water dragons across Beijing to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Water Dragon and spread the word about water scarcity. The event gained widespread coverage across all leading Chinese print, broadcast and online media outlets. And thanks to support from Wang Yong, Tian Wei, Pan Haidong, and a number of other key Chinese YGLs and influencers and YGLs, their social media visibility exploded, trending as a Weibo ‘hot topic’ on World Water Day! They even have their school partner posting Thirst "water content" banners – right opposite the school cafeteria. A terrific start towards the goal of shifting public awareness of water in China and creating a strong global youth movement by Davos 2013 - if you want to climb aboard, dive in by visiting them at http://thirst4water.org/.
